Clearing Scope Sheet | Breaktrail

Most clearing disputes start before any machine arrives: two people picture a different boundary, a different finish or a different place for the wood. The scope sheet puts those decisions on one page so every proposal you collect answers the same questions.

What the sheet covers

The work area, not the whole parcel

Sketch the part of the property you want opened, mark the areas that stay as they are and note any corridor or trail widths. A rough sketch over a printed aerial view is enough. The measurement guide explains why the clearing area is usually smaller than the lot.

Trees and vegetation to keep

List the trees and pockets of growth you want retained and how you will mark them on site. Note anything you already know about tree rules for the parcel. The tree protection guide covers root zones, equipment routes and material storage.

Access and known obstacles

Record the entrance width, turns, soft or sloped ground, overhead lines, old fencing, wire and any dumped material you know about. Do not walk into dense brush to find them; record what you can see from a safe place and what you remember.

Roots, stumps and the ground finish

Write down what the ground has to be ready for next: walking, mowing, a lawn, a fence or a building pad set by someone else. That decides whether stumps can stay, be ground or be removed. See mulching versus grubbing and stump grinding versus removal.

Where the wood goes

Mulch left in place, piles in an agreed spot or loads hauled away are different jobs with different prices. The sheet asks you to pick one for each area. The debris options guide explains the trade-offs.

Permissions and the quote comparison

The last section lists the permissions to check for the parcel and gives you columns to compare up to three proposals line by line, using the quote checklist headings.
